Αυτή η μανγητοσκοπημένη παρουσίαση θα εξερευνήσει τις εμπειρίες του arthereinstanbul, ενός κέντρου τέχνης στόχος του οποίου είναι να παρέχει έναν δημιουργικό χώρο για εκτοπισμένους Σύριους καλλιτέχνες που αντιμετωπίζουν δυσκολίες λόγω της υποχρεωτικής αποχώρησης από την χώρα τους. Το εγχείρημα arthereistanbul δεν στοχεύει στην ανάδειξη της κατάστασης τους ως πρόσφυγες. Επικεντρώνεται κατά κύριο λόγο στην δημιουργία απαραίτητων δικτύων, γνώσης και μέσων για την δημιουργία ποιοτικής τέχνης καθώς και την διατήρηση αυτής της διαδικασίας. Το arthere θεωρεί αναγκαία αυτή τη διαδικασία κατά τη διάρκεια της μεταβατικής περιόδου, ούτως ώστε να αναδειχθούν οι νέοι διασπορικοί καλλιτέχνες εν μέσω των κυμάτων της μαζικής μετανάστευσης των Σύριων.

The video presentation will explore the experience of arthereistanbul, which is an art centre aiming to provide a creative space for exiled Syrian artists in Turkey, who face difficulties resulting from their forced departure from their home country. The project arthereistanbul does not emphasise their status as refugees. It concentrates instead on developing the necessary networks, knowledge and means to create quality art and making this a sustainable process. arthere considers this highly necessary during this transition period in order to encourage the emergence of new diaspora artists within the wave of mass emigration of the Syrian people.

Μικρή Βιογραφία / Short Biography:

Ο Omar Berakdar είναι Σύριος φωτογράφος και πολυμεσικός καλλιτέχνης. Ίδρυσε και διευθύνει το κέντρο τέχνης arthereistanbul, σπούδασε ιστορία τέχνης πολυμέσων στο Κρέμς της Αυστρίας και είναι μέλος της Πρωτοβουλίας Φωτογραφικής Συντήρησης και Προστασίας της Μέσης Ανατολής. Συνεπιμελήθηκε το “Country in Focus: Syria” (Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Κωνσταντινούπολης) και είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του Συριακού Πολιτιστικού Οίκου “Hamisch” στην Τουρκία. Το 2010, συνεπιμελήθηκε το Φεστιβάλ Οπτικών Τεχνών της Δαμασκού, στο οποίο παρουσίασε και δικό του έργο. Πήρε μέρος στο project “Reloading Images” (2008) και η δουλειά του σε αυτό το πλαίσιο εκδόθηκε στη Δαμασκό στον κατάλογο “Tourists, Artists, Secret Agents and Damascus: Work in Progress”. Δουλειές του έχουν εκτεθεί στο φεστιβάλ φωτογραφίας της Αθήνας και στο VIIème Journées de la Photographie (2008).

Omar Berakdar is a Syrian photographer and media artist. The initiator and director of the art centre arthereistanbul, he studied media art history in Krems, Austria and is a member of the Middle East Photographic Preservation Initiative. He co-curated Country in Focus: Syria (Documentarist Film Festival, Istanbul) and was a founding member of the Syrian Cultural House in Turkey, Hamisch. In 2010, he co-curated the Damascus Visual Arts Festival, which also featured some of his work. He participated in the “Reloading Images” project (2008) and his work was published in Damascus: “Tourists, Artists, Secret Agents and Damascus: Work in Progress”. Other exhibitions include the Athens Photo Festival and the VIIème Journées de la Photographie (2008).
